There are a few people who are trying to pin point these people but when we find them who's going to do anything about them? This country is so screwed up that even the Governor of Pennsylvania has gone back on his word to get the mills in that state cleaned up or shut down . They threw out part of the new law that states that those mill owners have to exercise those dogs every day and that a pregnant female doesn't have to have any thing more than a wire bottom cage to try and have and raise her puppies on. It is sickening and I am sick of all the work that different people do including myself to find these people and then it all comes to a halt because we are not law officers and can't do anything about what these people are doing to the adult dogs and little ones.

One BIG thing that everyone could do is to quit buying the puppies from the pet shops that sell puppies... They are all puppy mill puppies. IT IS THIS SIMPLE!. You cannot believe anything any of those store owners tell you . Because it is all about the money and no one is going to ADMIT that stores like Petland and The Family Puppy and all of the little privately owned store and those people who sell all different breeds of puppies on the internet and from the newspapers all come from puppy mills. Reputable breeders of any breed of dog love their breed and they are not going to sell their puppies to a pet store ,or in a newspaper ad or on the internet. The people that are doing this are trying to get rich quick on the sale of those puppies from the mills and it is not going to happen.

If people would only stop buying like thins then sales would go down and mills wouldn't have the orders and they would have to close. But these people who sell these babies on the internet or from the newspaper will go first and that will be great.

The shelters are filled up to over capacity with wonderful loving dogs and puppies. And people don't need to have a Yorkie- poo or pukey- uggle what ever they are called? Go to the shelters and save a life and that dog will love and respect you forever for saving them from being euthanized.
Why can't we ALL work together on this to get these people closed down and fined and thrown in jail . And especially for those that abuse the dogs worse than anything you will ever see ...... ANd believe me it is horrifying.....
Lets do this for the dogs that we have lost in their memory and for our dogs now and those that will be brought into our families home in the future!!!! If enough people get together we will be heard and the government is going to know that we are not going to take this crap anymore.!!!!
Thanks for your time.
Sincerely

My daughter with 2 cats moved in with me and my cat. I had my litter box in the guest bathroom, which is now her bathroom. Right now, we each have a litter box in our bedroom so the cats would be comfortable. I thought it would be really gross but it's not at all. We each have a Booda ball cat litter box situated on a fluffy rug to contain the tracking. Your mother -in-law really was rude but she had your daughter's best interests at heart. Hard to argue with her good intentions.

Has she been in the car before? My cat did the panting thing too, I was a little freaked out but she eventually stopped and went to sleep once she got used to the noise and feeling of traveling so fast. It was just cause she was a little stressed.
For bathroom breaks, I know this is gonna sound gross, but I put a litter box with some litter in the back of the car, and gave her water and let her roam around in the car and do her thing while I was getting gas, food, ect. Be careful getting back in the car and don't let her escape! (Scoop out any, um, clumps before getting back on the road.)
If the trip is only 10 hours, I would feed her Thurs night, and then again when you get to your destination. Make sure she has access to fresh water during the trip though! Not feeding her will ensure that she won't vomit out of stress or upset. She'll honestly be okay if she has water, 10 hours isn't THAT long for them to go without food. (I take my cats along when I go to my parents' house, it's about 10 hrs away and they do fine with this.) Make sure you offer food right away at your destination!
Call up your local vet and ask them as well, they might have some good suggestions for you. Good luck!

My friends put a leash on their cat just before they enter the airport.. Do be careful as pets can accidentally strangle themselves on loose leashes when inside the kennel- so keep an eye out. When you get to the screening area, you can simply hold the loose leash end tightly as the TSA agent opens the door... You cat won't be able to jump out and escape as s/he will now be on a leash and collar.

When you're done you can put your cat back in the kennel and take off the leash thru the small openings in the cage door.

buy your kitty a harness and a leash. Also ask your vet for a "downer" to help your cat travel better. Make sure you keep a firm grip on the back of your cat's neck... they have a lot of extra skin there.

You may want to ask your local vet about an anesthetic. We did this with our 2 cats when we did a cross country move. This is just a drug to "attempt" to make the cat tired, but it doesn't always work. Now, you do actually have to remove the cat from the carrier when you go through security. There is probably no way around this, especially post 9/11. Just try to hold her tight enough so that she can't jump out of your arms easily.

This was about 10 years ago when we did it with our cat, but I don't recall the TSA actually looking at the cat. We just took the cat out of the carrier, then put the carrier through the x-ray. Again, this was pre 9/11 so, I don't know traveling with an animal has changed since then.

Carrier IS the best and safest way to travel with him in the car. I read your earlier Q's and I have NO idea why anyone would have told you to let him ride loose in the car. The carrier is definitely the right thing to do! :)

I also saw where you said he was a 3 year old dog. I think some people are answering as if he was a puppy?? A potty break every 3-5 hours should be FINE for an adult, small breed dog. More than enough. I used to drive a truck for a living & I've got two 20 lb dogs who rode with me all over the country. Took them out to pee whenever I had to stop to pee- about every 5 hours. They would usually go #2 twice a day, morning and evening. They NEVER had a single accident in my truck. No healthy ADULT dog should NEED to relieve himself every hour and they certainly shouldn't be having accidents from holding it for 3 hours.

A 13 hour trip isn't all that long. He will be fine. The only thing you have to do is take him out to potty like we mentioned and make sure to offer water at your stops (or clip a bowl of water to the cage door). You may want to use bottled water or bottle a couple jugs of tap water from home- Do this to avoid feeding him water from a bunch of different sources along the way. It can cause mild diarrhea since different water systems are treated & processed differently, have different mineral/bacterial counts, some may be well water, etc.

If he's not used to traveling or being crated he may get a little anxious & whiny, but if you resist the urge to "baby" him, most any dog will eventually settle down. I would suggest feeding him his main meal AFTER you arrive at your destination. If you want to feed him before the trip, make it a real small meal, just a small handful of kibble. If he has an empty stomach or just a little bit on his stomach, he is less likely to get carsick.

It'll be easier than you think. Just potty breaks, provide water, meal at the end of the trip. Keep him leashed. Make sure his collar has current tags on it. And try not to be too anxious about it. The more anxious you are, the more anxious he'll be. The trip will hopefully be a lot of FUN and your dog may suprise you with how well he handles it. Good luck.

Ok...I responded to your other question about the trip. Now I understand that it is a camping on the beach journey. PLEASE do not leave him outside the tent. He is small enough to fit in his carrier inside of it. I have 3 Yorkies and their beds on MY bed, we all fit nicely. All sorts of wildlife can/will be attracted to him. Sand fleas, flies, mosquitoes, other bugs, AND, someone can come along and take the carrier. Dogs are stolen all the time on vacation!!!

Also, since you are going to the beach, make sure your dog is on a flea preventative! You also need more than one gallon of fresh water. And many towels for drying him off. Traveling and letting him out every 3 hours or so is FINE! I travel ALL the time, dogs usually sleep after I tire them out on each rest stop. Taking a dog on a camping trip is easy only if someone is assigned to watch the dog at all times. Just like kids, they need constant supervision. Also, be sure that dogs are ALLOWED on the beach that you have chosen to stay on.

And, remember, we talked about the temperature. If it is super hot; over 80 degrees, it is probably too hot for your dog to be on the sandy beach. Under trees, in complete shade. DOGS CAN GET HORRIFIC SUNBURN!! Put sunscreen on his ears and nose, even though he will lick it off.

I am glad you are listening to those of us who know about traveling in a vehicle the SAFE way with a dog. Carriers and Kennels are a MUST for car travel. I see that now you know what to take, just relax and enjoy your trip!
